- Assistant Foundry Manager - Core Shop
Description
The Assistant Manager – Core Shop is responsible for supporting the Foundry Manager in the daily management of sand core operations. This role provides hands-on leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality core production in a non-union environment. The Assistant Manager oversees personnel, production flow, and process control while driving continuous improvement and supporting overall foundry objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in managing daily sand core production to meet foundry schedules, quality requirements, and cost objectives.
Oversee sand preparation, core making, curing, handling, and storage processes.
Monitor core quality, scrap rates, and rework; take corrective action as needed.
Support troubleshooting of sand, binder, tooling, and equipment-related issues.
Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure core machines, mixers, and tooling are operating reliably.
Directly supervise core shop employees and provide coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action in alignment with company policies.
Enforce all safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe work practices specific to sand core operations.
Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements related to sand Work with Quality and Engineering to identify root causes of core-related casting defects and implement corrective actions.
Communicate daily production status, manpower needs, downtime, and material usage to the Foundry Manager.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
3–5 years of foundry experience with direct involvement in sand core operations.
Previous lead, supervisor, or assistant management experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of core processes, and foundry safety standards.
